The City of Weslaco, Weslaco Area Chamber of Commerce and Liquid Environmental Solutions (LES) held a grand opening celebration on December 9th for a new, state-of-the-art facility that will be an anchor environmental business in the Weslaco Economic Development Zone. The $2 million dollar processing facility is the first of its kind to accept non-hazardous commercial wastewaters generated by a host of regional businesses including restaurants, supermarkets and food service facilities.
Grease trap waste, consisting of Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG), trash, food waste and wastewater, blocks municipal sewer systems and is the nation’s leading contributor to sewer overflows. The new LES plant accepts grease trap waste and meets or exceeds all Texas State and local environmental regulations, allowing the City to recover valuable water for safe discharge and reuse while LES recycles or properly disposes of the residuals.
“We are very pleased to welcome LES to Weslaco”, noted Mayor Buddy de la Rosa. “This plant adds jobs to our community as well as a much needed service to Valley businesses. It will be a centerpiece in our ongoing efforts to develop a vibrant eco-business zone. Weslaco is nationally renowned for birding and environmental stewardship and thanks to this plant our local economy is becoming a “greener” part of Texas as well.”
I want to acknowledge the City as a great partner in our completing this advanced environmental treatment facility, commented LES Senior VP Dana King. “As a company we are committed to protecting the environment, and we are excited to open our sixth facility in Texas. We invite our neighbors as well as each and every city and their health or code enforcement professionals here in the Valley to come meet our staff and take a tour, as this plant should be a big help in keeping their wastewater systems working smoothly.”
Headquartered in Dallas, LES is one of the nation’s leading providers of non-hazardous wastewater disposal services, processing more than 250 million gallons annually. In Texas, LES operates State (TCEQ) permitted facilities in Austin, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and now Weslaco, serving more than 12,000 client locations.
