Weslaco Beautiful, a volunteer committee of the Weslaco Area Chamber of Commerce, will be hosting a seminar series to educate valley residents about nature and ways to preserve and cultivate our environment. Seminars will be held on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at the Weslaco Area Chamber of Commerce, 301 W. Railroad Street.
The seminar series begins on Tuesday, February 17, with Paul Crerar of Mid Valley Gardens & Ponds presenting “Water Gardens 101”. With over 10 years of water gardening experience, Crerar will demonstrate the equipment needed to establish a water garden and provide valuable advice for the novice or expert water gardener.
Weslaco Beautiful will host a second seminar on Tuesday, February 24, titled “Let It Rot & Wormiculture”. Master Gardener Max Ganser and Landscape Architect Cindy Willson will present everything you need to know about composting with 'hands on' demonstrations including the master composters Red Wriggler Worms and their wonderful worm castings.
Concluding the series is “Working with Native Plants in your Yard” presented by Master Gardener Robert Vanderveer on Tuesday, March 3. Come learn the benefits and beauty that native South Texas plants can bring to your home and/or business. Vanderveer will demonstrate how to choose what's best for your yard, how to maintain your plants, and how to achieve nature habitat certification for your yard.
Cost for each seminar is $5/person. Call the Weslaco Chamber at 968-2102 to make your reservation.
