Good Morning Weslaco hosts Weslaco Museum Director

Weslaco Chamber members had the opportunity to hear from Weslaco Museum Executive Director Luis D. Contreras III on June 18 at “Good Morning Weslaco”, a monthly networking event for Mid-Valley businesses.

Contreras accepted his position in late 2008 during the transitional move to the Weslaco Museum’s new location at 500 S. Texas Blvd. His background in art, exhibits, and installation has made him an instrumental part of the development of the new exhibits and revolution of the museum.

The museum, which reopened in March, features a walk through exhibit of Weslaco’s history, an area for rotating exhibits to attract varied audiences, and special programs throughout the year open to the public. “We plan to begin offering a drawing class for youth called ‘Artifact’, where students will be learn and draw about artifacts in the museum and be exposed to the history of Weslaco.” For additional information and inquiries, call the Weslaco Museum at (956) 968-9142.
