The Onion Blossom Special is heading into the Weslaco City Park for this year’s Texas Onion Fest with a top notch entertainment line-up including The Los Garcia Brothers, Margarita and a range of country singers, tejano bands, norteno groups, magicians, dancing horses and much more on Saturday, March 27.
When evening falls at the Texas Onion Fest, The Onion Blossom Special really gets heated up with Los Garcia Brothers in their colorful pauchuco style suits electrifying the evening with the sounds and rhythms that have earned them awards in the Texas and National Tejano music scenes. Los Garcia Bros. won Conjunto album of the year at the 2002 Tejano Music Awards for the CD "La Rayita." In 2000, the group was named most promising band and picked up its first Conjunto album award for "Los Garcia de Jimmy Garcia."
Also headlining the Texas Onion Fest entertainment is Margarita whose career has spanned the decade with her award winning original songs and contemporary tejano music. She will end the evening’s entertainment on a high note, sending you home with music in your ears and hearts. Margarita's career started in 1998 in Rio Grande Valley, TX. The artist debuted with a self-titled album after EMI signed her up. That record included Margarita's first hit single "Te Juro." In 1999, the singer was awarded for being the Rising Star Female at the 19th Tejano Music Awards. The following year, Margarita and her band called Mezzcal were nominated for Most Promising Band, Female Entertainer of the Year, and Female Vocalist of the Year
Gates open at 10 am on Saturday, March 27, with the Magic Valley Electric Texas Stage kicking off the festivities with Weslaco High School’s Mariachi Pantera warming the crowd up before the hot new musical group Ache everyone moving with rhythms of Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia and nostalgic Cuba of the 1950’s. The dance troupe of Sabor Valero will be moving to the beat of Ache the new dance floor set in front of the stage to entertain and delight the music fans.
You will want to be up front and center when Marshall Law, a Rio Grande Valley country/rock band powerhouse, declares the stage theirs with tunes by Merle Haggard, George Jones and the likes of all the good old boys. They will show off their versatility when they amaze you with rock tunes spanning from Chuck Berry to The Cars.
You will want your cowboy boots on when Texas Reign hits the stage with South Texas’ style of country and western music that will have you tapping your toes. You will be out of your seats and on the dance floor when the band starts playing your favorite songs.
The Texas Stage will also be graced by a newcomer on the music scene, Laura Lopez, lead vocalist with the group Jade. She has deep roots in the valley and influence by her mother’s passion for singing. Her singles are played by Entravision’s Que Pasa radio.
