WESLACO, TX – The Weslaco Area Chamber of Commerce was the recipient of several marketing awards from the Texas Festivals and Events Association (TFEA) for their promotion of Texas Onion Fest, held at the end of March at Weslaco City Park. Texas Onion Fest celebrates the development of the Texas sweet onion, which was pioneered in Weslaco.
Martha Noell, CEO/President of the Chamber attended the TFEA annual conference in San Antonio last week along with Laura Espinoza, Marketing Director, where they accepted six awards for the Onion Fest’s marketing and advertising for the 2012 festival. TFEA awards the marketing efforts of events and festivals across the state. The Onion Fest was entered in the category of events with budgets from $75,000 to $250,000. “Being recognized among your peers in the industry is always an honor,” Noell commented. “We couldn’t do any of this without all of the support from our city, community, volunteers and sponsors.”

Noell is the President of the Weslaco Area Chamber of Commerce, which hosts the Texas Onion Fest and was also the president of the TFEA board for the 2011-2012 year. At the conference business luncheon, Noell was presented with a plaque in appreciation for her term as board chair.
