Weslaco Chamber hosting "Digital TV Transition" Luncheon, June 4

The switch to digital television (DTV) is coming soon and will dramatically improve our TV viewing experience. However, it will also affect many household television sets that currently receive signals through an antenna.

The Weslaco Area Chamber of Commerce will host an informational luncheon on Wednesday, June 4, from 12 to 1:15 pm, to give the public an opportunity to hear everything they need to know about the transition to digital television.

Guest speaker John Kittleman, KRGV News Channel 5 General Manager, will explain how all televisions that currently use an over-the-air antenna will be affected by the change and what you can do to keep your television working.

On February 17, 2009, the U.S. government is requiring all full-power television stations to broadcast exclusively with a digital signal. Any TV receiving an analog signal will no longer be able to view these TV stations.

TV sets manufactured as of March 2007 have a built-in tuner. Older TV sets will need a converter box in order for it to display the digital signal.

The presentation will be held at the Weslaco Business Visitor Center, located at 301 W. Railroad St. Seats are $5 per person and lunch is provided. Anyone interested in attending should call the Weslaco Area Chamber of Commerce at (956) 968-2102.
