Twenty-four contestants competed in the annual Onion Recipe and Salsa Recipe Contests held in conjunction with the 20th Annual Texas Onion Fest on April 3 & 4 at Weslaco City Park. Participants were required to create an original onion dish using a ½ cup of onions or a handful of jalapenos and make a one of kind “salsa”. Competing age categories included Youth (ages 7–12), Students (ages 13-18), Adult (ages 19 and up), and Professional (restaurants, café’s, chefs, etc.). The dish with the overall high score received the “Grand Champion” title. Congratulations to this year’s winners and participants for promoting the use of onions! All the winning recipes will soon be posted on the Weslaco Chamber website, www.weslaco.com.
