Braught Theater Hosts Summer Piano Recital

Students of the Karen Hesterly Piano Studio will be presented in a recital on Saturday, August 29, 2009 at Weslaco’s Braught Theater, 525 S. Kansas Ave.  Students ranging from kindergarteners to retirees will be performing on stage at two performances at 1:30p.m. and 3p.m.  The performances are free to the public.

Mrs. Hesterly has taught piano for 30 years, although recently she began teaching group lessons in the Valley.  “I love the camaraderie among my students who take group lessons.  We get the opportunity to perform for each other almost every week either with our solos or our piano relay, where each pianist plays a line in the piece we are studying,” says Mrs. Hesterly.  “Since almost everything in the world of music is done in a group, like band, choir or accompanying, it just makes sense to teach this way.  I’ve transformed a large room in my house into a classroom.  We learn to keep a beat and stay with each other.  And we have fun!”

Studying piano, voice, and organ, as well as conducting, Mrs. Hesterly’s education spans the country, but she grew up in Pharr and is pleased to offer her talents as a musician and teacher to Valley students.  For information about the piano recital or if you are interested in piano lessons, please call Karen Hesterly at (956) 968-5102.
