Each March, hundreds of bankers from across the nation gather in Washington for the American Banking Association's Government Relations Summit to personally share their concerns with high-ranking Administration officials, leaders of Congress and federal regulators.
Brian Humphreys, Branch President of Rio Bank in Weslaco was one of nearly 1,000 bankers who visited the nation's capitol recently to voice their concerns about how current banking proposals could impact the local economy.
While in Washington, Humphreys met with Representative Ruben Hinojosa and Senator John Cornyn to discuss efforts to reform financial regulations and ways to enhance small business lending. Commenting on his meetings, Humphreys said, "Traditional banking remains the foundation for our economic recovery. Banking is vital to helping small businesses regain their footing and the key to economic growth. The industry's efforts will be successful so long as new laws and new rules don't hobble bankers' ability to serve their communities."
Ford Sasser, President and CEO of Rio Bank, headquartered in McAllen said, "Brian Humphreys has extensive banking experience and insight into how banks can best serve the markets in which they are located. He provides extraordinary leadership and I asked him to go to Washington knowing that he would represent not only the best interest of Rio Bank but the entire personal and business banking community which we serve."
Reared in Weslaco, Humphreys received a BBA in International Business from UT Austin in 1999, and an MBA from UT Arlington. Humphrey's business and banking background includes 11 years in the financial services and banking industry analyzing capital and mortgage markets. After stints in Austin and Dallas, Humphreys returned home to Weslaco and has been Branch President of Rio's Weslaco Banking Center since August of 2009. Commenting on the move, Humphreys said, "I chose to move back to Weslaco because I wanted to make a profound difference in my community, and now I have the opportunity to do so by leading a bank right here in my hometown."
Humphreys added, "I have a keen sense of belonging at Rio Bank. I greatly respect what Ford Sasser and his professional banking team have accomplished over the past twenty-five years and I am excited to be a part of what the future holds here. Rio Bank is the kind of bank that does business the way people like to do business and I look forward to serving the needs of our customers and our community."
