Volunteers Make Tag Sale Fundraiser a Fun Event on Saturday

A crew of volunteers under the direction of Frontera Board member Maurie Haas has coordinated a fun and unusual event to be held on the grounds of Frontera Audubon this Saturday, July 24 beginning at 9a.m. For the past month, the group has been collecting unique, useful, and some crazy items to be sold at bargain prices in the parking lot of the local nature preserve. Proceeds will go to maintenance of the 15 acre wildlife refuge and restoration of the historic Skaggs House.

The group is interested in raising much needed funds, of course, but also they’ve added a few twists to an ordinary Tag Sale to make it a fun family event. For instance, a booth called the Altamira Boutique will display especially unique and collectable items such as tapestries, handblown liquor glasses, a Philippine baby cradle, and autographed coffee table books. “We’ve encouraged our members and people in the community to get under the bed and in their closets and pull out their slightly used but highly regarded treasures to donate to a great cause,” says Haas. “As one member says – ‘It’s for the birds!’ As a result, we have some odd conversation pieces, some interesting artwork, and much, much more…”

The Fabulous Frontera Bakers, a group of talented supporters who love to bake, are offering up single servings of cookies and brownies for sale in the Visitors’ Center along with cold drinks. And San Benito musician, Carlos Canas, will be providing live music on the visitors’ deck beginning at 10a.m. Guided tours of the Frontera Thicket and its extensive trail system will be offered, as well.

After the event, Payne Motors’ sales crew will be helping deliver remaining items to local charities.

Admission is free. Cash and credit cards will be accepted at the sale. Visitors will be asked to register at the gate for a special raffle item to be awarded at noon. For additional information about Frontera Audubon and the Tag Sale Fundraiser, please call (956) 968-3275.
