Montalvo Elected to Serve on Board of Independent Insurance Agents of Texas

(WESLACO, TX – July 27, 2010) – The Independent Insurance Agents of Texas (IIAT) elected Ramon Montalvo, III with the Montalvo Insurance Agency in Weslaco to serve as one of its newest directors to begin a three-year term starting on September 1, 2010.

Ramon Montalvo III is president of Montalvo Insurance Agency in Weslaco. He graduated Cum Laude from The University of Texas at Austin in 1978 with a major in insurance and obtained his Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation in 1985. Montalvo is on the advisory board of the Better Business Bureau of South Texas and is a board member of the Independent Insurance Agents of the Rio Grande Valley. He is also secretary and board member of the Knapp Medical Foundation.

Over the years, Montalvo has held many notable volunteer positions. He was a member of IIAT’s Finance and Budget Committee and chairman of IIAT’s Small and Rural Agency Advisory Council. He also served two terms as president of Weslaco ISD’s Board, served nine years on the Knapp Medical Center Board of Directors, and was the president of the Weslaco Development Committee, Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club.

Additionally, Montalvo has received many awards and honors. He was named the Weslaco Chamber Man of the Year in 1986 and the Weslaco Outstanding Citizen for 1999. In 1996 Montalvo received the Notable Hispanic of the Valley Award.
