1st Annual Wholehearted Scholar Fest & Raffle to take place Feb. 11

MERCEDES – The 1st Annual Wholehearted Scholar Fest will be held on Saturday, Feb. 11, at the South Texas Independent School District (STISD) grounds in Mercedes. Hosted by the STISD Education Foundation, proceeds from the event will fund college scholarships and summer enrichment programs for the students of STISD.

This free event is open to the public and will include fun activities for the entire family. The event will kick off at 7:30 a.m. as the 5K Run, 2K Walk, 1K Kids’ Run and Shadow Run commence. Booths will open at 9:00 a.m.

There will be food, games, music, crafts, a Zumbathon, booths hosted by STISD student and parent clubs and organizations, informational presentations on the different STISD campuses (with the opportunity to earn Advisement credit for those students interested in enrolling at STISD for the 2012-2013 school year), summer enrichment opportunity presentations by different universities, and information on community service opportunities for students.

The event will conclude with a drawing for the Education Foundation’s Annual Raffle which will take place at 2:30 p.m. This year’s raffle prizes include: an Apple iPad 2 16GB with WiFi 3G Bundle; a Hewlett Packard 15.5” Laptop; a Gamin’ Ride Mobile Video Game Theater Party; a Trek Dual Sport Bike (to be fitted to winner); a 4GB Xbox 360 Kinect; a Zune HD 32GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum); a PlayStation 3 160GB Entertainment System; and a NOOK Color E-Reader. Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25.
