Artistic, literary icons visit STC Mid-Valley Campus Library Art Gallery

South Texas College’s Mid-Valley Campus Library Art Gallery presents “Ahead of Their Time: Great Artistic and Literary Minds of the 19th & 20th Centuries,” an exhibit featuring mixed media artwork by Grover Terry Beaman. The exhibit opens Thursday, July 5 with an artist talk at 7 p.m. The exhibit will be on view through Friday, Sept. 13, 2012 at the Mid-Valley Campus Library Art Gallery located at 400 N. Border in Weslaco. Admission is free and open to the public.

“This collection of mixed media work is a tribute to the iconic artists, authors and musicians of an era gone by,” says Dawn Haughey, STC art gallery associate. “Beaman chose to highlight innovators such as Claude Monet, Jane Austen and Frederic Chopin because they are some of his favorite artistic personalities and their noteworthy contributions to the world continues to influence today’s generation.”

Beaman is a full-time, self-taught artist. He has lived all over the United States, sometimes creating caricatures of people in order to pay the rent. He has done numerous commissions for local businesses such as Quinta Mazatlan and The Alamo Inn. Beaman participates in Artwalk every month and is never very far from his sketchbook.

South Texas College’s Library Art Gallery Program exhibits regional, national and international artwork, explores new visions and theories of creativity, and introduces innovative artistic expressions to the South Texas region.
