Weslaco has traditionally been a progressive agricultural area; however, the city is now focusing its energy on attracting business and industry. The City of Weslaco, the Economic Development Corporation of Weslaco, the Weslaco Area Chamber of Commerce and leaders in our business community have shaped the economic environment to offer businesses the following benefits:
Strategic location
Weslaco is centrally located in the Rio Grande Valley and a front door to business and trade between the United States and Mexico. More businesses are purchasing real estate in the area and locating their stores, distribution centers, and corporate offices in Weslaco. Within a 50-mile radius, the Texas and Mexico population combined is estimated 1.6 million, and within a 200- mile radius, the total population is 6.4 million.
Strong Economy
Weslaco is home to a combination of retail, distribution, and light manufacturing businesses. To support economic growth, the city established a Foreign Trade Zone at the Airport Industrial Park and a Foreign Trade Sub-Zone near the Progreso International Bridge. Located in the ever-expanding Industrial Park, the Weslaco Mid- Valley Airport serves the needs of private and corporate entities.
Support from Local Government
The City of Weslaco provides the vision for Weslaco and nurtures the goals and objectives that steer Weslaco in the direction of growth and prosperity. In 2002, Weslaco was recognized as an All-America City. Weslaco is a charming city featuring wide-tree- lined streets with old estates and contemporary amenities that support the quality of life.
Established Downtown
Supported by such organizations as the Weslaco Economic Development Committee, the Weslaco Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Downtown Merchants Association, the economic climate in downtown Weslaco is vibrant, making it a logical site for business.
