Weslaco Museum Artist Reception
Through January 5, 2019, the Weslaco Museum will host "Frontexto: A Return Home," a collection by the Poet Laureate of San Antonio and Weslaco native, Octavio Quintanilla. Frontexto - a blend of frontera, ‘border’, and texto, ‘text’ - incorporates poetry with deceptively complex sketches. In this manner, Quintanilla captures his thoughts on paper not just in the written word, but in the fluid and fleeting form of emotion, images, and color.
As Quintanilla explains, “I challenged myself to carve some time out of the day… to write. It was… a way for me to commit myself more fully to my art and to stop making excuses.” And by limiting himself to smaller notebooks, Quintanilla challenges himself to “consider issues of scope in terms of text and image. Sometimes the text covers most of the page; other times, it is the image that takes over… lyricism and brevity are at the core of these visual poems.”
A reception for the artist will be held on Friday, December 21, at 6:00pm. All are welcome to attend.
