SUMMARY:Weslaco Museum Artist Reception
DESCRIPTION:As part of Weslaco's Centennial celebration\, the Weslaco Museum will exhibit the works of 21 Weslaco artists. \n\n\n\nThe exhibit is "Weslaco Artists: Past\, Present\, Coming\," which runs from September 3 to 28.\n\n\n\nThe artists included in the exhibit are diverse in subject and media. Landscapes done in oil and water colors and still- life pieces done in pastels are part of the exhibit. Sculptural pieces will also be part of the exhibit.\n\n\n\nVirginia Lehman and Emma Coates were life-long residents of Weslaco who have passed on. Mrs. Lehman was an art teacher and community icon and she excelled in portraits and still life works of art. Mrs. Coates "Bluebonnets" painted in 1971\, is her only work that will be on exhibit. \n\n\n\nRoel Flores has a strong connection to Tejano and Conjunto Music and his art reflects this music. Mr. Flores' works are on also on exhibit at several locations in Weslaco. His brother\, Mr. Juan Flores and his grandson\, Daniel Rodriguez will share their works\, as well. The work of Paul Pena\, will also be included in the exhibit.\n\n\n\nMr. Gabriel Salazar\, famous for his renderings of life in the Rio Grande Valley\, will be joining in this exhibit. Though not from Weslaco\, his paintings are a reflection of life throughout the valley. Many other well known artists will share in this exhibit. \n\n\n\nThere will be an Artists' Reception on September 12\, 6:00 to 8:00. The public is invited to come to meet the artists.
