Leadership Mid Valley is now accepting applications for Class XV to begin September 2019. An initiative of the Weslaco Area Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Mid Valley is an eight-month program which seeks to identify and motivate emerging leaders and develop their potential for community leadership by exposing them to the realities, opportunities and problems of the community. Applications are now available online at Weslaco.com and it is recommended that candidates either live or work in the Mid Valley area.
Leadership classes begin in September and conclude in May. Participants meet once a month for tours, seminars and hands-on learning experiences. Session topics include government, healthcare, education, media and other important community issues. Leadership Mid Valley brings together top-level business, civic, and government leaders for open conversation on the future of Weslaco and surrounding areas. Every class is assigned a project and fundraiser that must be completed before the graduation date. In addition, every year the Leadership class and alumni take a trip to the State Capitol where they have the opportunity to meet with various state officials, legislators and lobbyists.
Sessions are planned and scheduled by the Leadership Steering Committee, who meets once a month to plan out each session. The committee is comprised of Leadership alumni who serve a three-year term, and five committee chair members are elected by the class at the end of the year. The class selections for the next term are: Smiley Quiroz, Jr, Laura Rangel, Monica Resendez, JJ Serrano, Jr. and Sara Walker. This year’s committee chair is Robert Palomares , Leadership Mid Valley Class XII. The Weslaco Chamber would like to thank outgoing chair Elizabeth Walker, LMV Class XI in addition to her fellow classmates and outgoing steering committee members Robert Donalson, Javier Guerra, Mark Hanna and Cynthia Garcia.
