League City, TX—Local Chambers of Commerce from across the state of Texas convened Wednesday, June 20, for the Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives (TCCE) Annual Excellence Awards. The awards honor organizations for exceptional efforts in marketing, communications and media outreach. In the category of Outstanding Brochure the Weslaco Chamber was honored as the best in Texas, winning First Place in its division.
“It is always special to be recognized by peers. Texas is so big and with so many Chambers, it’s an even higher honor,” stated Croft. “As a newcomer to the community and Chamber, I was proud to represent Weslaco, our Chamber team and partners.”
The winning brochure features Think Weslaco, the city’s mobile app developed by the Weslaco Chamber. The slogan “Think Weslaco” was first coined by the Chamber’s advertising committee and is used in the Chamber’s marketing of Weslaco. The Chamber partnered with advertising agency Pollux Castor, who designed the layout, logo and graphics for the brochure.
“When we decided to update our brochure, we knew we wanted something completely different than what we’ve done before,” remarked Laura Espinoza, Weslaco Chamber Marketing Director. “PolluxCastor did a great job at keeping the functionality of our city brochure while bringing a fun, fresh look that captures Weslaco’s unique personality. We’re proud to share this award with them.”
“Bold design and authentic messaging is how audiences are won,” remarked Adan Garcia, marketing director for PolluxCastor. “Our design language for Think Weslaco sparks conversation around unexpected things that visitors want to experience. The Weslaco Chamber's vision for a breakout campaign was satisfying to realize."
The overall competition had more than 200 entries from which the best were judged by panels of experts. “This prestigious honor is cause for the staff, members and community to celebrate,” said RaDonna Hessel, 2017 TCCE Board Chairman and CEO of the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce. “This type of recognition is indicative of the great work, creativity and innovation that exists in these chambers.”
The Think Weslaco brochure can be found at the Business Visitor and Event Center, located next to City Hall in Weslaco. The Think Weslaco mobile app is available for free on iTunes and Google Play. For more information, visit www.weslaco.com
