Mayor's Welcome

Welcome to Weslaco, a thriving community in South Texas!

Weslaco is a central business location which lends itself to commerce throughout the entire Rio Grande Valley. In the past year, Weslaco has seen several new developments including the 400,000 sq ft HEB Retail Support Center and several new shopping centers.

Weslaco also provides quality living. Our educational institutions have proven their excellence across the state and our athletic departments have seen state finalists in football, basketball, track and field. The medical community has experienced tremendous growth with Knapp Medical Center at its core.

Count on Weslaco to enrich your hobbies and interests! The Weslaco Park system offers state-of-the-art softball fields and walking trails, not to mention a new skate park. These facilities provide excellent playing grounds for local and state sporting events. Weslaco also features two golf courses, the championship golf course Tierra Santa and the Village Executive Golf Course.

Weslaco is home to three nature centers that share a wealth of wildlife and nature habitats. The Valley Nature Center, Frontera Audubon Center, and South Texas' newest state park, Estero Llano Grande State Park and World Birding Center, offer guided tours and activities throughout the year for all ages.

Come discover the fun at Weslaco's Onion Festival held the first Saturday in April. It's a sweet celebration of the Texas 1015 Onion featuring onion blossoms, dancing horse shows, and musical entertainment! Other city events like the Mid Valley Lighted Christmas Parade and the Fourth of July Celebration also show Weslaco's community spirit.

Weslaco is famous for its eateries that satisfy everyone's appetite from American to International cuisine. The city also hosts a unique historic downtown shopping center where you will find antiques, jewelry, and gifts while live theatre awaits you at the Tower Threatre just a few blocks north.

Weslaco is ten minutes from Nuevo Progreso, the friendliest border town in Mexico, home to six blocks of sidewalk sales and shops. Visit Nuevo Progreso anytime and we guarantee you will return.
